Occupation of Vacant Commercial Premises Scheme

The Occupation of Vacant Commercial Premises Scheme (part of the Business Incentive Scheme) encourages the use of vacant commercial premises by incentivising both landlords and new businesses to occupy vacant premises (vacant for a period exceeding 6 months) by lowering entry costs through a grant related to the level of rates payable on the property and the amount of jobs created. This scheme is only open to industrial/manufacturing businesses.

Who Can Apply for the Occupation of Vacant Commercial Premises Scheme?

The Scheme is only open to newly established industrial business setting up within Longford town or county, existing industrial business relocating or expanding from outside Longford or an existing industrial business maintaining current location and expanding into a new location within Longford.

How does the Occupation of Vacant Premises Scheme Work?

Under the Scheme, grants are paid to qualifying applicants in respect of the rates struck for the subject premises as follows:

• Where an industrial/manufacturing business with a forecasted minimum of 10 jobs and up to 50 jobs, a flat rate of 25% rebate for 3 years would be agreed once the job target is met after year 1
• Where an industrial/manufacturing business with 50 jobs upwards, a flat rate of 50% rebate for 3 years would be agreed once the job target is met after year 1
• An industrial expansion may also be deemed eligible if it moves to a larger unit and results in additional new jobs (minimum 10 jobs)
